City trash provides value-added services
Residents receive many extra options without extra costs
Weekly trash pickup is just one of the services provided for Giddings residents as part of the city’s contract with Texas Disposal Systems (TDS).
Recyclables collected regularly
Every other week, Texas Disposal Systems picks up recyclables. City residents receive a free 96-gallon green cart for disposing of items like glass, plastic, aluminum, paper products, and household scrap metal. In addition, residents may also recycle a tied bundle of cardboard with each recycle pickup.
Free pickup for bulky items and brush
Quarterly, every trash customer may request a free curbside pickup of up to 3 cubic years of bulky items or brush. Bulky items eligible for free pickup include furniture, appliances, water heaters, wood, doors, carpet, toilets, fiberglass bathtubs, basketball goals, and fence posts. To schedule a bulky item pickup, customers can call Texas Disposal Systems at 800-375-8375.

Annual Christmas tree disposal
Residents who prefer to purchase live cut Christmas trees may leave them on the curb after the holiday for free pickup. Texas Disposal Systems requests that trees are cut in half and all tinsel and decor is removed. The company removes Christmas trees that are placed on the curb from Dec. 26-Jan. 31 each year.
Fee-based mattress removal
Due to the complication of proper disposal, many residential trash companies refuse to collect old mattresses. However, Texas Disposal Systems offers a fee-based option for those looking to dispose of old mattresses. Mattress pickup ranges from $25- $75, depending on a number of factors. Customers interested in scheduling a mattress pickup should call TDS customer service at 800-375-8375. When scheduling, TDS discusses customer needs and verifies the actual cost in advance of the mattress pickup. Customers can also visit City Hall at 118 E. Richmond St. to schedule and pay for mattress pickup.
Twice annual citywide clean-ups
During its two citywide “clean-up” events, the city offers 10 dumpsters that allow city residents to drop off large items. Residents can dispose of household trash, furniture, scrap metal, appliances (without Freon), brush, and other large items. The clean-up is scheduled as follows: Spring Clean-Up last Saturday of April and Fall Clean-Up last Saturday of September with Dumpsters located at the City of Giddings warehouse on 305 N. Caldwell St.
Easy notifications keep customers updated
Through Texas Disposal System’s customized Waste Wizard app, residents can sign up for garbage-day notifications to ensure they never miss another trash pickup. The app can also help residents determine which items are recyclable, and alert them of any weather-related changes to their normal pickup schedule. The app is available through the Apple App Store and on Google Play. Anytime Giddings residents have questions or comments about their trash service, they can call Texas Disposal Systems at 800-375-8375.
