Boards & Commissions

Giddings Citizens are Encouraged to Apply for Public Service Opportunities

The following is an overview of City of Giddings boards and commissions.

Board of Adjustment – Five members hear variances to the city’s zoning ordinances and appeals of administrative decisions, and interpret and enforce the zoning ordinance.  Meets as needed by requests for rulings.

Beautification Committee – Five members advise City Council and make recommendations on projects designed to maintain and improve the appearance of public areas in the City of Giddings. 

Public Parks & Playgrounds Advisory Board – Seven members advise City Council on park acquisitions, maintenance, operations and use of parks, playgrounds.  

Planning & Zoning Commission – Five members (all shall be residents of the city) review development proposals, rezoning cases, subdivision plats, replats and site plans.  Meets as necessary to conduct the business of the commission.

Historic Preservation Commission – Seven members make recommendations to preserve city landmarks. 

Economic Development Corporation – Seven members that promote and develop business enterprises in Giddings. 

Hotel Occupancy Tax Revenue Advisory Board – Seven members recommend to City Council activities, programs, events and policies that would best promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry within the City of Giddings. 

Joint Airport & Zoning Board – Seven members, who plan, acquire, construct, improve, equip, maintain, operate, and air navigation facility.  Meets as necessary to conduct business of the board.

Selection Process: Applications must be submitted to the City Secretary’s Office no later than the last Friday in October of each year.

Appointments will be made by City Council in November. Applicants will be notified of appointment by phone.
