About Me

Thanks for visiting! I’m glad to share a bit about my journey and what drives my commitment to public service.
Originally from Indiana, I began my career in 1989 when I joined the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. My service in Panama was pivotal; not only did I gain valuable experience, but I also met my wonderful wife. We’ve been married since 1990 and have two adult children: a son and a daughter. In 2019, my son relocated to Austin, and my wife, daughter, and I soon followed, eager to be closer as a family.
My Policing Philosophy
I firmly believe that the core mission of law enforcement is to uphold the law, protect lives, and safeguard property. We achieve this through a multifaceted approach:
- Comprehensive Officer Training: Equipping officers with a deep understanding and practical application of law, effective communication and de-escalation techniques, proactive community policing strategies, and appropriate use of force.
- Engaging Community Outreach: Developing programs that educate the public on crime awareness, prevention, and effective responses to criminal activity.
Experience
My career in law enforcement spans over three decades, marked by diverse roles and significant responsibilities.
Military Service
From 1989 to 1992, I served in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. During Operation “Just Cause” in Panama, I played a direct role in operations and later worked alongside the Panamanian National Police as an observer and trainer. I also had the privilege of serving as a Protective Service Agent for the United States Army South Operation commander and other visiting dignitaries.
Federal Security & Management
After my military service, I transitioned to a security company contracted by the Federal Protective Services. From 1993 to 1997, I worked as an armed uniformed security officer at the Indianapolis federal building. My dedication led to my promotion to Contract Manager, where I was responsible for overseeing over 100 uniformed officers stationed across various General Services Administration buildings throughout Indiana.
Municipal Law Enforcement Leadership
In 1997, I joined the newly incorporated Town of Avon Police Department as one of its inaugural officers. Over my tenure, I advanced through various ranks, including Patrol Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Assistant Chief. My roles included:
- Field Training: Serving as a Field Training Officer, Supervisor, and Coordinator, and becoming an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certified instructor.
- Assistant Chief of Police (2006 appointment): In this leadership role, I was instrumental in preparing preliminary budgets and developing crucial community outreach programs such as the Citizen Police Academy, Child ID initiatives, and Women’s Self-Defense classes. I also successfully applied for and secured approximately $300,000 in grants, which funded essential equipment and programs like hot spots policing and Project Lifesaver.
Education and Training
My commitment to professional development is reflected in my extensive education and specialized training:
- Southwest University: B.S. degree in Criminal Justice (1997)
- Indiana Law Enforcement Academy: Basic Police Officer Course (1997)
- FBI National Academy Graduate: Class 229 (2007)
